The Calvary Christian Cougars will face off against the Heritage Academy Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Calvary Christian 3.9, Heritage Academy 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Tuesday just wasn't the day for Calvary Christian's offense. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Scott on Tuesday. The Cougars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Heritage Academy got the win against Covington Latin on Wednesday by a conclusive 14-2. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Austin Brown made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Heritage Academy is 7-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5-1 otherwise. Brown was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Elan Forman and Elliot Kloss did most of the damage at the plate: Forman went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Kloss went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Heritage Academy is undefeated when Forman posts two or more runs, but 5-6-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Benjamin Brown, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Heritage Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Covington Latin only posted an OBP of .150.
Heritage Academy's win bumped their record up to 11-6-1. As for Calvary Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Calvary Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Heritage Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
