Softball Game Preview: Florence Gophers vs. Globe Tigers

Florence is 1-8-1 against Globe since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Gophers will be playing at home against the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Florence will be strutting in after a win while Globe will be coming in after a defeat.

Florence is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Apache Junction with a sharp 24-6 victory on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Kamie Rice was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alessandra Felix, who scored five runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Melissa Romero, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Florence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .698. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Globe's offense. They lost 15-0 to Coolidge on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Bears: they've now lost five in a row.

Florence has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Globe, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.
