1A Conference 5 recap September 24, 2013
Walkertown moved up to 312 from 339 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 1A Conference 5. The Wolfpack were able to move up by besting West Wilkes 26-13.
Walkertown added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Blackhawks, 26-13. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
Greg Salomon provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Bishop McGuinness bested South Stokes. Salomon's favorite target this week was Carlos Simmons, who caught 4 passes for 55 yards.
LOGAN HOLDER put up the best numbers in passing as Mount Airy bested Surry Central. He finished with 4 completions for 51 yards. HOLDER's favorite target this week was HORTON CALEB, who caught 2 passes for 40 yards.
Salomon was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 187 yards on 19 carries as the Villains topped the Sauras. Joe McNamara also contributed to the rushing game with 140 yards on the ground.
Simmons was the best receiver in 1A Conference 5 this week as Bishop McGuinness topped South Stokes.
6-foot-0 quarterback HOLDER of the Bears is the league leader in passing yards this season with 591. He has also thrown 4 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Dwight Sellars. The Atkins star has 18 catches for 303 yards.
Atkins lost to Graham 63-15 last week, the largest margin of any game.
