Basketball Recap: Sylva Bay Academy Piles Up the Points Against Kemper Academy

The home team had won the previous six meetings between Sylva Bay Academy and Kemper Academy, and Sylva Bay Academy kept the tradition alive. The Saints simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat the Rams 53-26. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Saints had established a 25-point advantage.

Sylva Bay Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lily Hatcher out in front who posted 17 points. The dominant performance also gave Hatcher a new career-high in assists (three). Kynlee Bennett was another key player, putting up 13 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Sylva Bay Academy's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-0. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.0 points on average this season. As for Kemper Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Looking ahead, Sylva Bay Academy will hit the road for the first time this season to square off against Newton County Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kemper Academy will be paying especially close attention to the Saints' contest: after the Saints face off against Stringer, they'll take on Kemper Academy again at 6:00 p.m. on the 21st.
