Kouts is a perfect 3-0 against Griffith since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Mustangs & Fillies will square off against the Panthers at 1:30 p.m. Kouts' pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so Griffith's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Kouts fell victim to Boone Grove and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 7-0 to the Wolves. The Mustangs & Fillies' loss signaled the end of their nine-game winning streak.
Kouts got a good showing from Vance Glassburn, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Glassburn has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
Meanwhile, Griffith had just enough and edged out Calumet Christian 7-6 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Panthers.
Parker Hecht tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Griffith is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 9-11 otherwise.
At the plate, Anthony Feliciano was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Steve McDermott, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Kouts' defeat dropped their record down to 20-4. As for Griffith, they now have a winning record of 12-11.
Griffith's pitching crew better be locked in on Saturday. Kouts hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. It's a different story for Griffith, though, as they've been averaging only 0 home runs. Will they be able to keep Kouts in the park?
Kouts was able to grind out a solid win over Griffith in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs & Fillies since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
