After a string of five wins, the Rock Canyon Jaguars's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. The matchup between Rock Canyon and Belton wasn't particularly close, with Rock Canyon falling 56-38. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Rock Canyon came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked tenth in Colorado, while Belton is ranked 149th in Texas).
Rock Canyon's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Macoy Terry, who scored 13 points along with 8 rebounds. Terry scored a full 34.2% of Rock Canyon's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Nolan Kliewer was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 9 rebounds.
Rock Canyon's defeat dropped their record down to 5-1. As for Belton, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.
Rock Canyon is on the road again on Saturday and play against Antonian Prep at 12:00 p.m. on December 9th. As for Belton, they will face off against Marcus at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Marcus knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 contests -- so hopefully Belton likes a good challenge.
