Basketball Recap: Newman Grove/St. Edward's Losing Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Newman Grove/St. Edward had lost seven straight headed into Tuesday's game, but Kailey Patzel didn't let it get to eight. The Newman Grove/St. Edward Panthers enjoyed a cozy 59-44 victory over the Elba Bluejays on Tuesday thanks in part to Patzel, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 26 boards. Patzel is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least nine every time she's taken the court this season.

Despite the defeat, Elba saw an underclassman step up: sophomore JarahLynn Morrow went 5 of 9 on her way to 13 points along with six assists and five boards. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Morrow has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Wysocki, who posted 12 points and eight rebounds.

Newman Grove/St. Edward's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Elba, their loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-6.

Newman Grove/St. Edward didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 65-38 defeat against Neligh-Oakdale on the 3rd. As for Elba, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-13 loss against Burwell on the 3rd.
