The Cobden Appleknockers were the 40-34 winner over the Galatia/Thompsonville Bearcats when they last played one another on January 12th, but their luck changed this time around. Cobden fell just short of Galatia/Thompsonville by a score of 32-29. Cobden has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Cobden's loss on Friday came despite strong showings from Dixie Kaufmann and Natalie Franklin. Kaufmann scored six points along with five steals, while Franklin dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds. That was a full 62.1% of Cobden's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Cobden has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Galatia/Thompsonville, their victory bumped their record up to 6-8.
Cobden won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Webber at 2:00 p.m. on January 27th. Webber has now lost 20 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 16. As for Galatia/Thompsonville, they will face off against Gallatin County at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Gallatin County is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
