Declo is on a five-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Glenns Ferry a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The Declo Hornets will host the Glenns Ferry Pilots at 4:00 p.m.
Declo fell victim to Malad and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dragons. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Hornets' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Declo saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keston Koyle, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. Those hits marked the first that Koyle got this season.
Glenns Ferry never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Idaho City last Monday. They walked away with a 10-7 victory over the Wildcats. The win continues a trend for the Pilots in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won four in a row.
Junior Sanchez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 13 over 6.1 innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bryce Sterling, who scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last 11 games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Heath Parsons, who scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.
Declo's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Glenns Ferry, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Declo has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Glenns Ferry struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Declo beat Glenns Ferry 4-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Pilots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
