Mazama hasn't had much luck against Henley recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Vikings will welcome the Hornets at 5:00 p.m. Mazama is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Mazama came up short against Klamath Union and fell 8-5. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Deshawn Carter was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Henley waltzed into their contest on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Huskies a 7-0 shutout. Considering the Hornets have won five games by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Corbin Hamilton's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mark Carpenter was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Henley: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jacoby Tacchini, who went 3-for-5 with two RBI.
Henley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in nine consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Henley's win bumped their record up to 5-2-1. As for Mazama, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mazama has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Henley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Mazama suffered a grim 17-1 defeat to Henley in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
