Hueneme is 0-4 against Santa Clara since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Hueneme Vikings will look to defend their home court against the Santa Clara Saints at 7:30 p.m. Hueneme is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Hueneme was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 49-48 to Fillmore. Hueneme has struggled against Fillmore recently, as their contest on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Benito Gutierrez, who scored 10 points along with 5 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Chris Juanillo, who scored 13 points along with 6 assists and 6 rebounds.
Meanwhile, the third road matchup was the charm for Santa Clara, as they earned their first road win of the season. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Eastside on Saturday and snuck past 48-46.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Santa Clara to victory, but perhaps none more so than Julian Espinoza, who scored 6 points along with 3 steals. JD Pettit was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with 9 rebounds.
The losses dropped Hueneme to 0-6 and Fillmore to 2-6.
Hueneme suffered a grim 59-37 defeat to Santa Clara in their previous meeting back in December of 2021. Thankfully for Hueneme, Andy Olmos (who scored 23 points) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
