Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2024 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in addition to local and state accolades.
Christian Collins of
Notre Dame Academy (Green Bay) is the 2024 MaxPreps Wisconsin High School Football Player of the Year. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound senior running back led the Tritons to a 14-0 record and the Division 3 state championship.
Collins' efforts helped Notre Dame Academy win its first state title since 2015 and record its first undefeated season in 21 years. He finished with 3,084 rushing yards (second in state history) and a state-best 42 touchdowns.
In a 49-28 win over Catholic Memorial (Waukesha) in the championship game, Collins ran 39 times for 408 yards and five touchdowns. His monster rushing yardage total was a title-game record and he tied the record for most rushing TDs.
A week earlier in a 41-21 semifinal win over La Crosse Logan (La Crosse), Collins piled up 339 yards and five scores on 37 carries. He put up 300 yards or more in four of five postseason games, totaling 1,600 yards and 21 scores in the playoffs alone.
As a junior, Collins led the state with 2,503 yards rushing and 40 touchdowns. He finished his career with 727 carries for 6,560 yards and 95 touchdowns.
According to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association, Collins' 6,560 career rushing yards ranks fifth in state history.
