The Fonda-Fultonville Valley Hawks will face off against the Duanesburg Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Fonda-Fultonville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
Fonda-Fultonville is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Watervliet 19-7 on Tuesday. The Valley Hawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by eight runs or more this season.
Harper Huckans was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Taylre Watterson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Fonda-Fultonville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Duanesburg fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Broadalbin-Perth on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 8-7. That makes it the first time this season the Eagles have let down their home crowd.
Genevieve Rickert put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Hailey Davis made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Arianna Nicolella was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Duanesburg's defeat dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Fonda-Fultonville, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fonda-Fultonville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Duanesburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fonda-Fultonville might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Duanesburg when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Valley Hawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
