The California Grizzlies will head out on the road to face off against the Granada Matadors at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: California has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Granada will arrive with seven straight wins.
California suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 80-54 walloping at the hands of Monte Vista. While losing is never fun, California can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 317th, while Monte Vista is ranked 49th).
California's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of BRAYDEN GIJBELS, who scored 13 points, and Jared Calderon who scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Calderon has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Macio Budge, who scored eight points.
Meanwhile, even though Amador Valley scored an imposing 57 points on Tuesday, Granada still came out on top. Granada walked away with a 66-57 victory over Amador Valley.
California's defeat dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Granada, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-1.
Things could have been worse for California, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 74-58 loss to Granada in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can California avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
