Softball Recap: Sunnyslope Comes Up Short

If Sunnyslope was riding high fresh off their 13-7 takedown of Blue Ridge last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Sunnyslope fell just short of the Willow Canyon Wildcats by a score of 11-9 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Vikings have suffered since April 22, 2024.

Sophia Pi?a and Peyton Udall stepped up to the plate in a big way. Pi?a scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Udall scored three runs while going 1-for-5. Those three runs gave Udall a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Hyde, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Sunnyslope kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive contests.

Sunnyslope dropped their record down to 4-7 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Willow Canyon, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-5-1 record this season.

Sunnyslope will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Apollo at 3:45 p.m. As for Willow Canyon, they will venture away from home to challenge Sunrise Mountain at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Willow Canyon's pitchers better be ready for this one: Sunrise Mountain has averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
