The Lakewood Ranch Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 77-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of Braden River. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Lakewood Ranch in their matchups with Braden River: they've now lost four in a row.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was David Young, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Allen, who scored 17 points.
Even though they lost, Lakewood Ranch were working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Lakewood Ranch has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Braden River, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakewood Ranch will challenge Wiregrass Ranch at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Braden River won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Manatee at 7:30 p.m. on January 9th. Manatee will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 559th, while Braden River is ranked 128th).
