Basketball Recap: Zealand Lane Key Part of a Team Effort in Longhorns Win

Basalt lost to Delta back in February of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Basalt Longhorns came out on top against the Delta Panthers by a score of 65-54.

Basalt's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zealand Lane, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Lane a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Luke Williams, who went 9 of 13 en route to 20 points.

Basalt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Delta's loss came despite strong showings from JP Gallegos and Erik Baier. Gallegos posted 27 points, while Baier dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards. Baier has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Black, who put up seven points.

The win got Basalt back to even at 6-6. As for Delta, they moved to 5-8 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Basalt will face off against Aspen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Aspen will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Basalt surely won't give up without a fight. As for Delta, they will take on Moffat County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Moffat County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.7 points per game this season.
