The Valley Lumberjacks will head out to face off against the Calhoun Red Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Valley has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Valley couldn't beat Frontier on Thursday even though they stacked seven runs on them in the seventh inning. The Lumberjacks fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 12-11. The Lumberjacks haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Calhoun). Everything went their way against Webster County on Thursday as they made off with an 18-8 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Red Devils needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Remedy Riddel made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Calhoun got a massive performance out of Brylie Wilson, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave Wilson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Raylee Cunningham, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Calhoun kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Calhoun's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-12. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.
