The Bacon County Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Lamar County Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Bacon County has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Lamar County will arrive with seven straight victories.
Last Friday, Bacon County came up short against Irwin County and fell 25-14.
Travion Richardson put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Lamar County didn't have too much trouble with Heard County at home on Friday as they won 45-28. Given Lamar County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 151st, while Heard County is ranked 306th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lamar County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ty Head, who rushed for 48 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for ten yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Head was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards. Zyquavius Hughley and his 137 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Lamar County's victory.
Bacon County bumped their record down to 4-5 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 13-1 Johnson County and 9-1 Clinch County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.5% over those games). As for Lamar County, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.
Friday's match might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Bacon County has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 238.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lamar County struggles in that department as they've been even better at 241.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
