3A South Central recap Oct. 30, 2012
Discovery Canyon extended the longest winning streak in 3A South Central this week by beating Woodland Park, 49-14. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Thunder.
Discovery Canyon led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on the Panthers. Alec Wirtjes threw for 161 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 33 yards in the win.
Aaron Wright was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 27 carries, he ran for 259 yards as Mitchell topped Woodland Park. Preston Williams also contributed to the rushing game with 76 yards on the ground.
Isaha Duvall made the biggest impact on defense this week as Coronado defeated Wasson. The 6-foot-0 defensive back pulled down one interception.
Beiswenger was the best wideout in 3A South Central this week as the Thunder bested Joe Roskam's team. Beiswenger tallied three receptions for 75 yards. Peter Call helped Discovery Canyon's passing attack out by catching one ball for 33 yards.
On the ground, the Marauders' Wright has rushed for 1630 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is DJ Hanes. The Wasson star has 45 catches for 857 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Discovery Canyon takes on the Cougars. The Thunder are currently in first, while Coronado is in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Discovery Canyon takes on Bob Lizarraga's team. The Thunder have allowed 134 points this season, while the Cougars have given up 169. Discovery Canyon allowed 14 points last week as it beat the Panthers.
