Kaylee Kilgore spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 16 Ks. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, South Pittsburg's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Addy Talley, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Girls Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Rhea County an 8-0 shutout on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Bruisers in their matchups with the Golden Eagles: they've now won five in a row.
Addison Smith made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. Smith was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jayla Gladden, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. Gladden is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Adrianna Reyes, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Girls Prep kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rhea County didn't got any hits.
South Pittsburg pushed their record up to 2-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Girls Prep, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
