It was a good run, but the GVCS Broadfording Lions unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They were the victim of a rough 75-52 defeat at the hands of Mercersburg Academy. The match was a close 32-31 at the break, but unfortunately for GVCS Broadfording it sure didn't stay that way.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mercersburg Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Annie Mohr, who scored 19 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. It was the first time this season that Mohr posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Goodhart, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
GVCS Broadfording's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 17-8. As for Mercersburg Academy, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-6.
GVCS Broadfording and Faith Christian Academy will face off at 5:30 p.m. on February 5th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully GVCS Broadfording is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Faith Christian Academy in their respective states (GVCS Broadfording is ranked 121st in Maryland, while Faith Christian Academy is ranked 260th in West Virginia). As for Mercersburg Academy, they will face off against National Cathedral at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Mercersburg Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
