The St. Mary's Ryken Knights struggled with assists on Wednesday (the Bishop Ireton Cardinals had 12 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. St. Mary's Ryken was beaten by the Cardinals 83-34. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for St. Mary's Ryken in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now lost five in a row.
St. Mary's Ryken's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Corinne Turner, who scored ten points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bishop Ireton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nyla Brooks, who scored 26 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Brooks is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 18 or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Theresa Hagans Jr., who scored 20 points along with two steals.
St. Mary's Ryken has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season. As for Bishop Ireton, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Mary's Ryken will challenge the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Archbishop Carroll is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 57.6 points per game this season. Bishop Ireton is on the road again on Friday and plays the at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Elizabeth Seton is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
