The Marion-Franklin Red Devils pushed their score all the way to 65 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 66-65 to Eastmoor Academy. Marion-Franklin lost against Eastmoor Academy in their previous head to head back in February of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 81-44 score last time.
When it comes to explaining why Marion-Franklin lost, one person who can't be blamed is Terry Black. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten rebounds. Black has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylon Wilkins, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Eastmoor Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than James Nowell, who scored 14 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was King Moody, who scored 19 points along with two steals.
Marion-Franklin now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Eastmoor Academy, they pushed their record up to 5-6 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Marion-Franklin will face off against Briggs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Eastmoor Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Africentric Early College at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Africentric Early College's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games.
