The Scarborough Red Storm will face off against the Thornton Academy Trojans on Saturday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Scarborough is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand South Portland a 1-0 shutout. The victory was familiar territory for the Red Storm, who have now won three games in a row.
The result came thanks to Erik Swenson's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Scarborough secured the win behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Matthew Fallona, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Fallona has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Denver Bachmann also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Thornton Academy faced Gorham in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Trojans had just enough and edged out the Rams 4-3.
Beck Edgerly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on eight hits.
On the hitting side, Brennan Tabor was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double. He has become a key player for Thornton Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4-1 otherwise.
Thornton Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That lines up perfectly with their 13-4-1 record this season. As for Scarborough, their victory bumped their record up to 16-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Scarborough has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 6.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Thornton Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Scarborough beat Thornton Academy 5-2 in their previous meeting back in May. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Storm since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
