The Gainesville Hurricanes lost against the Mainland Buccaneers back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Gainesville took a serious blow against the Buccaneers, falling 74-39. Gainesville was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-20.
Leading Mainland to victory were Olivia Olson and Anovia Sheals. Olson scored 25 points along with seven assists, while Sheals scored 27 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Olson has scored all season. Tia Dobson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five assists.
Gainesville has not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for Mainland, they pushed their record up to 12-12 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Gainesville will square off against the Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Florida (Buchholz is ranked 157th, while the Hurricanes are ranked 148th). Mainland's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Falcons on February 7th.
