The Southwest Roughriders will face off against the Overton Eagles at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Southwest is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
On Saturday, Southwest got the win against Elgin/Pope John by a conclusive 3-0.
While Southwest might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Elgin/Pope John scored at least 19 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-22, 25-19.
Southwest got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Bellamie Stritt out in front who had nine digs and two aces. Caitlyn Adams also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Overton, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They blew past Wauneta-Palisade 3-0 on Saturday.
The final score came out to 25-21, 25-13, 25-15.
Southwest's victory bumped their record up to 28-5. As for Overton, their win bumped their record up to 26-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's match: Southwest has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.2 aces per game. However, it's not like Overton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Southwest came up short against Overton when the teams last played back in October, falling 2-0. Can the Roughriders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
