The South Warren Spartans are taking a road trip to challenge the Milton Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, South Warren put up the most runs they have all season on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Pine Forest with a sharp 18-1 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Camden Page was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Page was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple. That triple was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Andrew Watt looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, South Warren let Jaxen Decker and Ty Croghan run wild. Decker scored two runs while going 1-for-2, while Croghan scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Those two runs gave Croghan a new career-high. Mark Maniere also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
South Warren always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Milton took on Aletheia Christian Academy on Tuesday. The Panthers never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Saylor Melton made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over six innings pitched. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Milton is 4-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 5-9 otherwise. Melton was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cade Burdette, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Brayden Barrow was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
South Warren's record is now 10-2. As for Milton, their record now sits at 9-10.
Milton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Warren has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. It's a different story for Milton, though, as they've only averaged .358. Will they be able to contain South Warren's hitters?
