West Johnston took  a  three-set  loss the last time they faced off against South Johnston, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a  win as the  squad sidled past the Trojans  3-2.  West Johnston took South Johnston into a fifth set  where they got it done with a seven-point win. The final score came out to 19-25, 25-15, 25-27, 25-17,  15-8.
 Kylee McArtan paced West Johnston's offense, picking up 11 kills. McArtan got some help from  Carly Eagles and her 21 assists. Eagles also made an impact serving:  she shared the team lead in aces with  Ava Parker, racking up four apiece.
 Despite the  defeat, South Johnston saw an underclassman step up: sophomore  Lily Johnson  had eight  digs and two  aces. Johnson has been hot recently, having  posted two or more  aces the last three times she's  played.
West Johnston's victory bumped their record up to 9-5. As for South Johnston, their loss  ended  a  three-game streak of wins at home  and  dropped them to 6-7.
 Coming up, West Johnston will challenge Union Pines at 5:45  p.m.  on Thursday. The Vikings will roll in looking for their  12th straight  win, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for South Johnston, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Harnett Central  at 5:45  p.m.  on Thursday.
