This season hasn't been kind to The Onaga Buffaloes, who are still winless after their seventh match. They took a serious blow against Jackson Heights on Friday, falling 46-0. Onaga lost against Jackson Heights in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 27-0 score last time.
Jackson Heights' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Drake Mellies, who rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Mellies really tore up the turf during one magnificent 81-yard run. Joshua Smith was another key contributor, gaining 110 total yards and three touchdowns.
Onaga's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Centralia and 7-2 Christ Prep Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 77.8% over those games). As for Jackson Heights, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-1.
Onaga will head out on the road to face off against Valley Falls on Friday. Valley Falls comes in on a streak of failing to score more than eight points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Jackson Heights, they will be playing at home against Mission Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
