The Albertus Magnus Falcons will head out on the road to take on the Harrison Huskies at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Albertus Magnus is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Albertus Magnus is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Maria Regina just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tigers. Falcons fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Tigers since Saturday.
Albertus Magnus handed starting duties to Madison Krause, who gave a strong showing despite the result: she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Rylee Kinchen was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Aubrey Dwyer was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Harrison got the win against Nyack on Monday by a conclusive 11-1. The Huskies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by ten runs or more this season.
Madi Miller made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Fionnuala Rallis was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was EvgEnia Rallis, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
Harrison is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Albertus Magnus, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
Harrison's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Albertus Magnus has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Harrison, though, as they've been averaging 8.9 hits. Given Albertus Magnus' sizable advantage in that area, the Huskies will need to find a way to close that gap.
Albertus Magnus suffered a grim 12-4 defeat to Harrison when the teams last played back in April of 2016. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
