Pike County has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the New Brockton Gamecocks at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Pike County posted their closest victory yet this season on Thursday. They had just enough and edged Opp out 34-31. The victory was just what Pike County needed coming off of a 53-19 loss in their prior game.
Meanwhile, New Brockton entered their tilt with Opp with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. New Brockton strolled past Opp with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 58-40.
New Brockton found their leader in underclassman Reese Eddins, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Aniya Barkley, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Pike County's victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-11. As for New Brockton, they pushed their record up to 13-5 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road.
Pike County suffered a grim 47-24 defeat to New Brockton when the teams last played last Friday. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Pike County was down 28-3.
