Basketball Recap: Fairbanks Skates Past Northeastern with Ease

Fairbanks won the last time they faced Northeastern and things went their way on Saturday too. The Fairbanks Panthers claimed a resounding 68-9 victory over the Northeastern Jets. The contest marked the Panthers' most dominant win of the season.

Fairbanks had a senior duo take command as Ally Gearheart went 6 for 14 on her way to 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals and Grace Zahn went 5 of 12 en route to 10 points and five boards. The dominant performance gave Gearheart a new career-high in boards. Riley DaRe was another key player, putting up six points and five steals.

Fairbanks smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northeastern only pulled down two offensive boards.

Fairbanks pushed their record up to 11-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 26.0 points per game. As for Northeastern, they are on a 36-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-22.

Fairbanks wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 55-37 loss against Buckeye Valley on the 3rd. As for Northeastern, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Anna at 5:00 p.m. on February 15th.
