Sahuaro hasn't had much luck against Canyon del Oro recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Cougars will head out on the road to take on the Dorados at 10:00 a.m.
Sahuaro is headed into Saturday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Thursday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of Ironwood Ridge. On the bright side, the eight- run performance marked the Cougars' highest-scoring contest to date.
Meanwhile, Canyon del Oro waltzed into their matchup on Friday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Everything went their way against the Rangers as they made off with a 14-2 victory. Considering the Dorados have won nine games by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
David Adams was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI.
In other batting news, Tarrell Reid was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Adrian Encinas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Canyon del Oro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rincon/University only posted an OBP of .300.
Canyon del Oro pushed their record up to 19-5 with the win, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Sahuaro, their loss dropped their record down to 2-17-1.
Sahuaro suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Canyon del Oro when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
