The Buckeye Hawks will head out on the road to square off against the Desert Edge Scorpions at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Buckeye is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Last Thursday, Buckeye didn't have quite enough to beat Paradise Valley and fell 6-5. The Hawks haven't had much luck with the Trojans recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Mayco Morales was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he pitched six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Morales was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Morales wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maddox Villegas, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Desert Edge got themselves on the board against North Canyon on Thursday, but North Canyon never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Rattlers with a sharp 10-0 victory. Considering the Scorpions have won three contests by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Justice Scott's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Dougie Turasky Jr and Jayden Boschetti did most of the damage at the plate: Turasky Jr went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Boschetti got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Desert Edge is undefeated when Boschetti posts two or more runs, but 0-4 otherwise. Cooper Zaremba also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Desert Edge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Buckeye's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Desert Edge, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-4.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Buckeye has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .439. However, it's not like Desert Edge struggles in that department as they've averaged .459. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Buckeye couldn't quite get it done against Desert Edge in their previous matchup back in March of 2025 as they fell 8-3. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
