The Putnam County Midgets have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 80-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of Canton on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Preston Brewer continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Canton, almost dropping a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. Brewer hasn't dropped below 15 points for five straight games. Chris Alspaw was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Putnam County has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-5 record this season. As for Canton, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.
Putnam County will head out on the road to square off against the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Trenton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings (they are ranked 464th, while the Midgets are ranked 199th). As for Canton, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Raiders at 7:30 p.m.
