2A District 1 recap October 29, 2013
Hennessey added to the longest winning streak in 2A District 1 this week by beating Newkirk, 32-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Eagles.
Pawnee lost to Chisholm 49-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Bryce Stewart was a key player and the best on defense this week as the Longhorns topped the Black Bears. The 5-foot-11 senior forced 1 fumble and recorded 1 fumble.
Taggart Brown threw for 288 yards and 5 touchdowns. He was 8-13 with 0 interceptions.
Brown put up the best numbers in passing as Chisholm defeated Pawnee. Brown's favorite target this week was Karsten Brady, who caught 3 passes for 173 yards.
On the heels of Brown and Stewart, Joey Reinart's team has had great success on offense. Brown leads the league in passing with 1,110 yards, while Stewart has rushed for 952 yards this season. Hennessey's Edgar Fierro leads the league in receiving yards with 335 on 28 catches.
The Longhorns' Stewart is a mere 48 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 186 carries Stewart has accumulated 952 yard this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Rick Luetjen's team takes on Tonkawa. The Eagles are currently in first, while the Buccaneers are in fourth.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Hennessey takes on Tonkawa. The Eagles have allowed 99 points this season, while Mike Kirtley's team has given up 103. Hennessey allowed 0 points last week as it bested Newkirk.
Perry and Luther played the most contested game in the league this week, with Perry eventually emerging with a 32-28 victory. Hunter Condit ran for 209 yards in the win.
