The Compton Tarbabes will square off against the Cabrillo Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Compton's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last seven contests.
Compton is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Woodrow Wilson on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Tarbabes came up short against the Bruins, falling 99-75. The Tarbabes have struggled against the Bruins recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Compton saw an underclassman step up: freshman Roman Sims shot 56% from the field on his way to 26 points. Thanks to that strong game, Sims now owns an excellent 45.6% shooting accuracy. Zai Williams was another key player, putting up 14 points and five boards.
Meanwhile, Cabrillo hadn't done well against Lakewood recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Jaguars walked away with a 60-51 win over the Lancers. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Jaguars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 332nd, while the Lancers are ranked 872nd).
Compton better keep an eye on Marques MJ Reed Jr. He was instrumental in Cabrillo's win, almost dropping a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Reed Jr's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kinsey Obue, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 14 boards.
Cabrillo has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points over those games. As for Compton, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-12.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Compton has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 25.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Cabrillo struggles in that department as they've been averaging 32.6 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Compton couldn't quite get it done against Cabrillo when the teams last played back in December of 2025 as they fell 72-63. Will the Tarbabes have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
