The Foxcroft Academy Ponies will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Bucksport Golden Bucks at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
On Friday, Foxcroft Academy got the win against Piscataquis by a conclusive 20-3. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Ponies.
Lilly Bisson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Bisson was even better at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Alexis B was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases and three runs. Aspen P was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Bucksport put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Orono. The Golden Bucks were the clear victors by a 9-0 margin over the Riots. The Golden Bucks haven't had any issues with the Riots recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Like Foxcroft Academy, Bucksport also got a great game from a two-way player: Natalie Simpson. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Simpson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jetta Shook, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Allison Hanscom, who went 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Bucksport pushed their record up to 2-0 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. Foxcroft Academy has also opened the season with a perfect 2-0 record.
Foxcroft Academy suffered a grim 14-3 defeat to Bucksport when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Ponies have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
