Josiah Mayfield made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Bayfield is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-7 otherwise. Mayfield was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and five RBI.
In other batting news, Tavian Box and Daemon Christner did most of the damage at the plate: Box got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI, while Christner went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Box also got three hits, which is notable because Bayfield is 3-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 3-7 otherwise. Tauer Crotty was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Bayfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .762. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Monday just wasn't the day for Alamosa's offense. They lost 13-0 to Pueblo Centennial on Monday. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Mean Moose's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Bayfield's record now sits at 6-8. As for Alamosa, they dropped their record down to 9-7 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Alamosa's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Bayfield has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game. It's a different story for Alamosa, though, as they've been averaging 9.6 hits. Given Bayfield's sizable advantage in that area, the Mean Moose will need to find a way to close that gap.
Bayfield got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 against Alamosa by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
