The Cowan Blackhawks will head out on the road to face off against the Randolph Southern Rebels at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Randolph Southern took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Cowan, who comes in off a win.
Cowan had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Union City by a score of 85-74 on Tuesday. Cowan's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Cowan's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mason Kidd, who went 6 for 7 from beyond the arc en route to 25 points and 2 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Kidd has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Timmy Watson, who scored 19 points along with seven assists.
Meanwhile, Randolph Southern's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their 15th straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 76-52 walloping at the hands of Seton Catholic. While losing is never fun, Randolph Southern can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 444th, while Seton Catholic is ranked 170th).
Despite the defeat, Randolph Southern saw an underclassman step up: Noah Allen scored 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Mills, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds.
Cowan's win bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Randolph Southern, they dropped their record down to 1-15 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Cowan hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 59.9 points per game. It's a different story for Randolph Southern, though, as they've been averaging only 38 points per game. The only thing between Cowan and another offensive beatdown is Randolph Southern. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Cowan came up short against Randolph Southern when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 77-71. Can Cowan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
