It was a good run, but the Elyria Catholic Panthers unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Wednesday. They suffered a rough 75-51 loss at the hands of Medina. While losing is never fun, Elyria Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Battling Bees are ranked 25th).
Despite the loss, Elyria Catholic had strong showings from Isabelle Niederst, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two steals, and Lexi Rodriquez, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Niederst is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Mya Rivera, who scored seven points.
Elyria Catholic's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-5. As for Medina, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.
Elyria Catholic will be playing at home against the Middies at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Medina, they will head out on the road to take on the Cardinals at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Mentor is on a six-game streak of home wins, the Battling Bees a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
