The Dinwiddie Generals will face off against the Clover Hill Cavaliers at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Dinwiddie sitting on 13 straight wins and Clover Hill on four.
Dinwiddie will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Colonial Heights on Thursday. The Generals walked away with a 12-7 victory over the Colonials.
Dinwiddie let Nala Bain and Charleigh Davis run wild. Bain got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Davis got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base was Bain's first of the season. Addison Williams was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clover Hill). They were the clear victors by a 20-2 margin over L.C. Bird on Thursday. Considering the Cavaliers have won eight matchups by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Brianna Miller made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cayla Wright, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alejandra Wittman, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Clover Hill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as L.C. Bird only posted an OBP of .478.
Dinwiddie's win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Clover Hill, their record now sits at 12-4.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dinwiddie has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .469. However, it's not like Clover Hill struggles in that department as they've averaged .490. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dinwiddie beat Clover Hill 5-2 in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Generals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
