The Banner County Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their tenth straight loss. They took a hard 46-27 fall against Creek Valley. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Banner County in their matchups with the Storm: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, Banner County still got an impressive performance from Karleigh Leslie, who scored 15 points along with four steals. It was the first time this season that Leslie scored 15 or more points.
Banner County struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Creek Valley posted 11 assists.
Creek Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anna Speirs led the charge by scoring 13 points along with eight steals and five rebounds. Speirs hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Whiting, who scored 19 points along with five steals.
Banner County's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for Creek Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 3-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Banner County's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Warriors on January 23rd. Leyton presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Wildcats in Nebraska (the Warriors are ranked 98th, while the Wildcats are ranked 280th). As for Creek Valley, they will head out on the road to take on the Sailors at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sutherland is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
