The Maryvale Panthers will head out on the road to take on the Mesa Jackrabbits at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. Mesa took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Maryvale, who comes in off a win.
Maryvale not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1, 2025 (when they won 28-7). Everything went their way against Fairfax as they made off with a 15-3 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Sebastian Gonzalez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Gonzalez was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Gabriel Romero was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Brayan Alvarado was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Maryvale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .733. Their OBP was a full 0 higher than the also-impressive .591 that Fairfax posted.
Meanwhile, Mesa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Warren, falling 10-0.
Mesa saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reed De Micco, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double was De Micco's first of the season.
Maryvale's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Mesa, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
Mesa's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Maryvale hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. It's a different story for Mesa, though, as they've only averaged .211. Will they be able to contain Maryvale's hitters?
Maryvale might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Mesa in their previous matchup back in March of 2025. Can the Panthers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
