2A Western recap Oct. 23, 2012
Bayfield extended the longest winning streak in 2A Western this week by beating Olathe, 32-0. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Wolverines.
Grand Valley led the league in scoring this week after putting up 36 points on Aspen. Tyler Scott threw for 175 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 48 yards in the win.
Tanner Zimmerman was the best wideout in the league this week as the Cardinals beat the Skiers. Zimmerman tallied two receptions for 68 yards. Trent Reidle helped Grand Valley's passing attack out by catching three balls for 63 yards.
Dan Schwartz was the most productive running back in 2A Western this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 188 yards as Aspen defeated Aspen. Luke RIder also contributed to the rushing game with 22 yards on the ground.
Austin Schneider made the biggest impact on defense this week as Basalt topped Coal Ridge. The senior grabbed one sack.
Thanks to the talents of Scott and Zimmerman the Cardinals have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Scott leads the league in passing with 1044 yards, while Zimmerman has rushed for 1246 yards this season. The Longhorns' Andrade Josh leads the league in receiving yards with 394 on 19 catches.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Basalt takes on Reuben Burbach's team. Carl Frerichs' team is in fourth place, while the Skiers are in third place.
