The Grayson County Blue Devils will face off against the George Wythe Maroons at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Grayson County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They never let Craig County get on the board and left with an 18-0 win. Considering the Blue Devils have won ten matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, after only one run in their last game, George Wythe made sure to put some runs up on the board against Eastern Montgomery on Thursday. The Maroons were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Mustangs. The Maroons not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 22nd (when they won 12-1).
Morgan Layne made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Layne was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, George Wythe got a massive performance out of Avery Cline, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those three hits gave Cline a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madalyn Morris, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
George Wythe lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Grayson County has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for George Wythe, their win bumped their record up to 8-13.
Grayson County took their victory against George Wythe when the teams last played back in May by a conclusive 12-6 score. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Maroons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
