After a string of three wins, Academy with Community Partners' good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 54-29 walloping at the hands of BASIS - Mesa. Academy with Community Partners has struggled against BASIS - Mesa recently, as their contest on Wednesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ohzeaya Carson, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that he grabbed two or more steals. Kimani Hamilton was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, Skyline - Gila River can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent contest on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Arizona Cultural Academy 79-49 at home. Skyline - Gila River's win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Academy with Community Partners' defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Skyline - Gila River, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-0.
Academy with Community Partners suffered a grim 65-45 defeat to Skyline - Gila River in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Academy with Community Partners avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
