Baseball Recap: Elkhart Wins Going Away Against South Bend Riley

It was a proper cat-fight when Elkhart faced off against South Bend Riley on Wednesday. The Lions blew past the Wildcats 15-2. The Lions haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Brady Kelly and Quinn Rost made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Kelly pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Rost didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Kelly has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Kelly scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances, while Rost scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs Rost has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Max Shreiner, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and four runs while going 3-for-3. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. Brady Sherwood was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Elkhart always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Bend Riley only posted an OBP of .190.

Elkhart's record is now 5-1. As for South Bend Riley, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Elkhart will challenge NorthWood at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight. As for South Bend Riley, they will face off against South Bend Washington at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
