The Luverne Tigers will venture away from home to square off against the Goshen Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Luverne sitting on eight straight wins and Goshen on six.
Luverne is headed into the matchup after thoroughly thrashing Barbour County: they outscored them in every quarter. The Tigers' defense stepped up to hand the Jaguars a 56-0 shutout on Friday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Tigers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 117th, while the Jaguars are ranked 400th).

Kane Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 186 yards and three touchdowns while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also punching in one score on the ground. What's more, he racked up 158.6 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Elliott Harris also helped with two TDs in total.
Luverne didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Donterious Chandler and Khi Harris. Harris got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Goshen). They blew past Pike Liberal Arts 51-7 last Friday. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Eagles had established a 38-point advantage.
Luverne better keep an eye on Grant Taylor. He was instrumental in Goshen's win, throwing for 143 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight passes, while also rushing for 108 yards on only seven carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 57 yards. Another player making a difference was JaDarius Burney, who picked up 89 receiving yards and one score.
One reason for the win was Goshen's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Leading the way was Jaylon Vinson with two. JT Beck got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Luverne's record now sits at 8-0. As for Goshen, their record is now 6-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Luverne has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 431.5 total yards per game. It's a different story for Goshen, though, as they've been averaging only 238.7 total yards. Will Luverne be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Eagles flip the script?
Luverne was dealt a bruising 42-12 defeat at the hands of Goshen in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
